The Martial Way

I have trained at the Martial Way since 1992. This school is among the best I have trained with. The instructors have varied backgrounds so you can get realistic training that relates to a spectrum of arts.

The study of Aikido has given me years of health and stamina (my primary goals) within a regimen that drives drives my own motivation.

The Dojo is a nonjudgmental place to escape the stress of the work day, and learn a new way of life. The Sensei's and Student's are welcoming, engaging, and very helpful.

Our grandson Aidan (12 years old) has been attending classes for 2 years. He really enjoys his classes. He feels welcomed at the school. He is proud of his achievements in aikido. The teachers are engaged and patient. There are many sessions for him to attend. I would recommend this martial arts training to parents looking for a good program for their kids.

I've gone to my share of martial arts schools over the years -- tang soo do, BJJ, muy thai, aikido (a different dojo) -- when my girls were old enough to start learning to defend themselves, I shopped around quite a bit and settled on The Martial Way. There's a fantastic culture here that perfectly balances "relaxed" and "serious." People are here to focus, learn, and train, but at the same time, they're not sweating the small stuff.

For my kiddos, there are weeknight and Saturday kids classes with Sensei Sam and Sensei Crystal who are both highly adept at teaching kids both ranging from the shy and serious (my older kiddo) to the hyperactive and gregarious (my younger kiddo). For myself, adult classes after each, including weapons training with the inimitable Sensei Tony.

As for Aikido itself, there's nothing I'd rather my girls be learning. Sure, they can learn to punch, kick, or grapple in various other martial arts, and I hope someday they do, but when it comes to real-world scenarios, particularly for women and young girls, the art of using an attacker's weight and strength against them; of knowing how to _stop_ someone (or many someones!) without relying on raw muscle and force to do so... there's no parallel in the martial arts world. If you want to compete in MMA or karate tournaments, sure, Aikido is not for you. But if you want to learn how to truly _defend_ yourself, this is it.

Dave Maturo, the new (last year) co-owner of the dojo has done a marvelous job of renovating. Come in and take a peek. The atmosphere is friendly and the instructional staff top-notch. Training here will boost physical fitness, and self-confidence from knowing you can defend yourself.
