Constructed of brown field stone, the Old Norriton Presbyterian Church was built in 1698. It is one of the oldest churches in Pennsylvania, second only to Gloria Dei "Old Swedes" Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. The church is open for worship on certain Sundays, as well as holiday events. The surrounding grounds and cemetery, which contain the resting place of many Revolutionary War dead, are free to visit year-round.
Beautiful historic church and cemetary. Nice little stop to see gravestones from the Revolutionary War. Beautiful and well taken care of.
A small congregation, but with a fairly large mission presence. Support from Norriton goes to the Interfaith Food Pantry in Norristown, the VA hospital in Coatesville, the PA Wolf Sanctuary, Women's Bridge Resource Center in Eagleville, Outreach House in Collegeville and several others. The church also does a monthly free-will offering breakfast for the community. This is a really caring group of people.
A small church with a big heart! Friendly, caring congregation.
A lot of history here. On the national register for historic places- built in 1698 it carries it's own small cemetery. A newer building behind this now functions as the church. However this church was present as British forces went down Germantown pike to capture Philadelphia during the revolutionary war. This church was part of william penn's plan to have several religions be able to coexist in one area. It was a success and still stands today. There are no tours of this building however they do have an occasional service here.
