Put in Mont Claire ( port providence). Fitzwater Station has a huge lot (grass) also a great place to end your journey! You paddle up the canal and pull out across to the Schuylkill river, where it's more about relaxing and exploring! Maybe 2 miles down on your left you'll see a sign for Port providence, beach yourself there and get you and your boat, maybe 300 yards back into the canal. Paddle back where you put in. Locals call it " the loop". Enjoy
Amazing! Tons of fun here. The hike between here and black rock sanctuary is only 30 minutes one way but very beautiful with lots of tranquil places to stop and relax. Great place to kayak or explore.
Mount Clare has great access to the Lock 60 recreational area. It is a great place to launch the kayak or just walk down the trail. You can even check out how the locks were used back in the day to move cargo.
Beautiful area for access to the canal and Schuylkill river for kayaking, paddle boarding, and boating. Wide shady trails along the river for walking and biking and enjoying the scenery. Access to Neal Thorpe trail which is more rugged. Access about 200 ft from canal lock and access bridge. This rugged trail is rustic and pretty so watch your footing. The steep climb to the overlook is challenging. Lots of loose stones and rocks so easy to slip and fall. Much harder coming down later. Wear sturdy shoes.
Super gorgeous barely used well maintained wide flat safe towpath between the Schuylkill River and the canal.... Great fall colors and lots of mated ducks and geese including mallards and a wood duck! walk from produce junction South to Fitzwater station bridge or further! I always meet pleasant happy people who are taking care of their bodies and Minds here but very few really... Why don't you be the next to get out and enjoy nature?!
